If you consider making light of, or poking fun at, "getting excited" you make a good point.

The thing is, on the boards that I post on, it's the right wingers who start the threads and say that the left is afraid of her and that she drives them nuts. Looks to me like they could give a shit less.

I can't speak for them, of course.

Strange use of words on your part, considering those that I mentioned and the levels of their actual excitement.

I understand that, with that said my statement: "If you consider making light of, or poking fun at, "getting excited" you make a good point." stands.

I can not recall a VP candidate getting as much attention from the opposing party during an election cycle as Palin had. Nothing even close...

That was during the election and you have to admit that her selection caught everyone by surprise. So much so that they all, including Faux, were scurrying around to find out facts about her. I remember when Spiro Agnew was named VP candidate by Nixon, different times buth there was a hell of a lot of questions (like who or what is a Spiro Agnew - something used in the space program - a new plant created by the government) asked about that choice and he became a household name overnight. Unfortunately for Sarah however, with all the scrutiny came more questions.

There was more scrutiny of her personal life than we had for Obama.

I can't recall the scrutiny of Agnew, but you have to go back forty years to find anything even comparable...

Again, the scrutiny was because whe was someone out of the woodwork, totally unexpected. Obama had been elected to congress so he was something of a known quantity.

Yea it was a long time ago but you made it seem like this kind of thing has never, ever happened before. The more things change the more they stay the same.

Usually VP selections are made for political gain and are pretty much a matter of open selection from among a few people and deciding which one would "balance the ticket". The selections of Agnew and Palin were totally out of the blue and neither seemed to give the presidential candidate any decided advantage. The only advantage I saw McCain gain was he made the selection immediately after Obama's rousing acceptance speech and took him off the front pages for a couple of days while people tried to find out who this Palin person was. After that she was an anchor on the campaign.

It's because no one so freakish and astonishingly ill-equipped to be president had been nominated by major party in the last 40 years to be VP, which is really saying something. That she was on the ticket with a 70-something cancer survivor with a gambling problem, rage issues and a lot of mileage on him made it even more of a "wow" moment.

I think John Cole sums it up nicely:

SHE’S. A. GRIFTER. She quit her damned job to go on the wingnut welfare circuit. Seven in ten people think she is unqualified to be President. She’s just in this for the money, and she is currently having a public feud with the father of her teenage daughter’s child who is himself cashing in by posing for Playgirl.

But now we know that one of the 3 people who think she's qualified to be POTUS also think she is more qualified than Joe Biden.

Now that's funny!

tlb, now you believe that any white woman who doesn't abort a pregnancy is qualified to be president?

That's a far, far cry from the day when you didn't even think women should be allowed to vote. I'm so proud of you. You've come a long way, baby!

Mark my words - tomorrow is the game changer! Tune in to hear common sense solutions that bury the false accusations that conscientious members of Congress have no solutions to meet America's health care challenges.

If you're like me, shaking your head wondering why all the miscommunication between Washington and the American people who have been saying, "Please hear what we're saying about our desire for health care reform," then tomorrow will be a refreshing time of clarity for all.

All Americans, and especially colleagues of House Republican Leader John Boehner: please listen to tomorrow's weekly GOP national address. Rep. Boehner will highlight a common sense alternative to Speaker Pelosi's 1,990-page government takeover of health care. I urge you to watch for it. For a preview, go to: http://HealthCare.GOP.gov

You'll hear solutions. You'll hear of real choices based on America's proven free-market principles. You'll know once and for all what the GOP and Independents have been saying all along about alternatives to another big government take over. After tomorrow, you'll know that accusations against the GOP and Independents for not providing solutions are false. Those claims are bogus. There are alternatives. Tune in to Rep. Boehner's address tomorrow to hear them.

I look forward to the game changer!

Number one: let families and businesses buy health insurance across state lines.

Number two: allow individuals, small businesses, and trade associations to pool together and acquire health insurance at lower prices, the same way large corporations and labor unions do.

Number three: give states the tools to create their own innovative reforms that lower health care costs.

Number four: end junk lawsuits that contribute to higher health care costs by increasing the number of tests and procedures that physicians sometimes order not because they think it's good medicine, but because they are afraid of being sued.

SARAH SLAMS FORMER VP BIDEN TODAY--

http://citizenpalin4president.blogspot.com/2009/11/sarah-palin-response-to-joe-bidens.html

As the vice president knows, I have always advocated an all-of-the-above approach to American energy independence. Among other things, my alternative energy goal for Alaska sits at 50 percent because Alaska reached more than 20 percent during my term in office. The Obama-Biden administration, on the other hand, recently announced a renewable goal of only 25 percent. However, domestic drilling should remain a top priority in order to meet America’s consumption and security needs.

The vice president’s extreme opposition to domestic energy development goes all the way back to 1973 when he opposed the Alaska pipeline bill. As Ann Coulter pointed out, “Biden cast one of only five votes against the pipeline that has produced more than 15 billion barrels of oil, supplied nearly 20 percent of this nation’s oil, created tens of thousands of jobs, added hundreds of billions of dollars to the U.S. economy and reduced money transfers to the nation’s enemies by about the same amount.”

This nonsensical opposition to American domestic energy development continues to this day. Apparently the Obama-Biden administration only approves of offshore drilling in Brazil, where it will provide security and jobs for Brazilians. This election is about American security and American jobs.

There’s one way to tell Vice President Biden that we’re tired of folks in Washington distorting our message and hampering our nation’s progress: Hoffman, Baby, Hoffman!

From Politico

Club for Growth

Sure, the Club enabled Doug Hoffman’s rise. But he still lost—despite more than $1 million in Club spending—which means that the anti-tax, limited government organization will continue to face snickers about its preferred candidates. Add Hoffman to the list of other flameouts like Andy Harris, the Club-backed candidate who knocked off a GOP incumbent in a 2008 Maryland primary then lost a heavily Republican seat in the general, or Bill Sali, who somehow managed to lose re-election in an even more solidly Republican seat in Idaho. Then there’s Tim Walberg, the Michigan congressman who also proved unable to hold his Republican-friendly seat in 2008.

A Victory for Common Sense and Fiscal SanityShare

Congratulations to the new Governors-Elect of Virginia and New Jersey! I’d also like to offer a special word of support to the new Lieutenant Governor-Elect of New Jersey, Kim Guadagno, the first woman to hold that office.

Of course, the real victors in this election are the ordinary men and women who voted for positive change and a return to fiscal sanity. Your voices have been heard.

The race for New York’s 23rd District is not over, just postponed until 2010. The issues of this election have always centered on the economy – on the need for fiscal restraint, smaller government, and policies that encourage jobs. In 2010, these issues will be even more crucial to the electorate. I commend Doug Hoffman and all the other under-dog candidates who have the courage to put themselves out there and run against the odds.

To the tireless grassroots patriots who worked so hard in that race and to future citizen-candidates like Doug, please remember Reagan’s words of encouragement after his defeat in 1976:

“The cause goes on. Don't get cynical because look at yourselves and what you were willing to do, and recognize that there are millions and millions of Americans out there that want what you want, that want it to be that way, that want it to be a shining city on a hill.”

The cause goes on.

Mark Kirk asks for Sarah Palin’s endorsement

Wednesday, Nov 4, 2009

* I’ve been hearing that Mark Kirk was about to move sharply to the right, but asking for a Palin endorsement? Really? Wow…

Illinois Rep. Mark Kirk penned a memo to Republican poobah Fred Malek hoping to secure an endorsement from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for his Senate candidacy, according to a copy of the memo obtained by the Fix.

After noting that Palin will be in Chicago later this month to appear on “Oprah”, Kirk writes that “the Chicago media will focus on one key issue: Does Gov[ernor] Palin oppose Congressman Mark Kirk’s bid to take the Obama Senate seat for the Republicans?”

Kirk goes on to write that he is hoping for something “quick and decisive” from Palin about the race, perhaps to the effect of: “Voters in Illinois have a key opportunity to take Barack Obama’s Senate seat. Congressman Kirk is the lead candidate to do that.”

Malek confirmed the authenticity of the memo in an e-mail exchange

Um, I don’t think the Chicago media will be “focusing” on the Kirk-Palin “issue” when she comes to town for her Oprah show. They’re usually mainly focused on ogling Oprah. Somebody is a bit too self-centered, methinks.

Also, the Chicago political media has historically been one of Kirk’s most loyal constituencies. They’ve helped brand him as an independent, liberal Republican. Getting Palin’s nod won’t endear him to those types at all. This looks beyond bizarre to me. Is anybody over there thinking about the general election? Is anyone thinking about how McCain/Palin got stomped here last year?

I’m really stunned by this remarkable display of brazen pandering. I guess I shouldn’t be so suprised, but I am.
