Wildcard games this weekend....Super Bowl looms...

Anybody hate the Dallas Cowboys?

This is the place to talk football until the NFL season culminates in the Super Bowl and we all head into that long, cold off-season when desperate sports junkies will turn to the Pro Bowling Tour on TV.....

Not a pro football fan -- I watch the Super Bowl for the commercials and skip the game.

The Philadelphia Iggles travel to Dallas Saturday night for a wild-card game.

That smug, rich SOB Jerry Jones will be holding forth in the skybox of his $1.2 billion stadium.

Come on, Iggles, break ol' Jerry's heart....

Quite right. I'll be watching all the pro games this weekend.

I don't like college ball.

It's like war: if they are going to do it at all, I want there to be serious blood in it.

The only sure thing this weekend is the Packers to beat the Cardinals, but I'd go with the Bengals over the Jets, Eagles over the Cowboys, which would cost Wade Phillips his job, and the Pats squeaking it out vs the Ravens.

NASCAR starts next month.

Cowboys will beat the Eagles again on the way to winning the Super Bowl. *GAG*

Jets take the Bengals.

NE ekes by Baltimore.

Green Bay takes Arizona.

There was a Japanese businessman who was visiting the United States and his American colleagues took him to see his first NFL football game. He just sat there quietly and watched the game. After the game, his colleagues asked him what he thought of American football.

His response: "If this a fight ... not enough. If this a game ... too much!"

Jets take the Bengals.

Baltimore ekes by NE.

I attend neither so I wouldn't know. Oh well, I guess that has something to do with the subject or quality of the event but I just can't quite put my finger on it.

It ain't a sport if you do it on your way home from work.

I draw the line between sports and other entertainment events when a machine not powered by the athlete is involved. Bicycling is a sport while a person driving a motorized vehicle does not qualify as a sport IMO.

....then tell me those drivers arent athletes....

Caustic, flying a jet fighter is more demanding but I don't hear those guys or gals claiming to be an athlete. The drivers have great stamina but so what? Cooter, I was brought up in the middle of NASCAR country and went to their events, as well as dirt track and small track races, at an early age. I didn't get a thing out of it and preferred baseball and football. I especially can't understand watching it on TV, to me nothing is more boring (with the possible exception of golf on TV). But that is just my opinion of course.

I understand. I like watching golf, if it's a good course and competitive. I just know people who didn't care that much for NASCAR until they went to a race. They're losing me though, with the cookie cutter tracks that don't promote racing and all of the restrictions. They're vanillaing the whole thing in the name of evening out competition, which it's not doing. I don't even watch races at certain tracks because they'll be all strung out with no racing going on.

Very athletic Moonshiners- if hand-eye-brain calculation qualifies as 'Athletic' - but not really a sport. An event maybe... A great party fer sure.

But not a sport...

I never claimed to be a "proffessor" and never will. I just don't see how you can say that making a motorized vehicle perform is an athletic action. Now if they pedaled it or pushed it I would be in agreement with you.

so your arguing that if it involves anything with a mechanized movement device is non-athletic????

...elaborate please....and please show the line at which you draw the difference...

I said motorized vehicles. Hell, every day your wife and daughters do the same thing as those guys. You know, turn the key, put it in gear and push the gas pedal. Do they claim to be professional athletes because they can do that?. I contend that by your standards of being able to control a motorized vehicle for long distances with a bunch of traffic OTR truckers are better "athletes" than NASCAR racers.

Oh and if you are trying to go the route of "mechanized" motion you can stop that right now. Although I don't watch the sport, I think tour biking people are without a doubt true athletes. I mean seriously, if a dude can pedal a bicycle up and down the frigging Alps he is a stud.

The only one you mentioned that controlled a motorized device was a motocross participant. IMO they aren't athletes, the others are.

Then you are athletic IMO. I have told you a couple times, I draw the line on controlling a MOTORIZED vehicle as opposed to a mechanical device the person has to control by their efforts only.

In a luge or bobsled the people in the vehicle have to make the proper moves at the right times to make the vehicle move faster. If not every vehicle would have the same time for the race wouldn't they? There is so very little difference between the race vehicles that even the slightest movement by a team member would made the difference.

With the exception of the racer having to rely on a motor to supply his power. I really don't think that a simple leaning or "forward to back" motion would affect the outcome of the race at Daytona.
